negotiated a later start date instead of more salary and it mattered more than I expected
Offer was already solid on the number, but I had a trip booked and a notice period that overlapped awkwardly. Asked for three extra weeks before starting instead of pushing on comp, they said yes without any back and forth at all. Turned out to matter way more for my actual sanity than another percent on base would have.

AnonymousAnon Worth noting this probably works best with an already-decent offer. When my number felt like the bare minimum, they wouldn't budge on start date either, comp and flexibility seemed to be a package deal.

AnonymousAnon Extra time before starting is underrated, I did something similar and it made the first two weeks way less frantic than my last job.
