asked for a referral from someone I barely knew on linkedin and the awkwardness was worth it

Messaged someone at a company I wanted in purely off a mutual connection and maybe two sentences of overlap in our backgrounds. Wrote and rewrote the ask three times because it felt presumptuous asking a stranger to vouch for me. They said yes within a day and even gave a heads up on what the team was actually looking for. Still cringe rereading my own message but glad I sent it anyway.
