switched from nursing to backend dev and the thing that transferred more than I expected was triage
#career-switch#first-job
Twelve years of deciding what's actually urgent versus what feels urgent under pressure turned out to map almost directly onto incident response. First on-call page I got, my brain just went into the same mode as a busy shift. Nobody warns you the hard transferable skill isn't the technical stuff, it's whatever you were already good at under pressure.

AnonymousAnon This is such a good point, I came from ops/sysadmin work and incident response felt like day one all over again. Different domain, same muscle.
