A filter can undo the point of a left join
Anonymous
A condition on the right-hand table in WHERE filters rows after the join, so rows with no match often disappear because their right-side values are NULL. If unmatched left rows should remain, put the right-side matching condition in ON. Keep only intentional exclusions in WHERE.
